Foreword by H.H Sheikha Fatma Bint Mubarak
With the kind and strong support of the late UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, women in the UAE played a substantial role during the past few years in supporting and consolidating the economic movement, by engaging in a number of legitimate commercial and economic activities. However, the significance of such role was not sufficiently highlighted, because businesswomen lacked proper assistance to play a real and significant supportive role to the national economy.
Recently, the role of working women has remarkably grown in the United Arab Emirates in general and in Abu Dhabi Emirate in particular, especially in the field of business and investment, despite the adverse circumstances which obstructed the development of businesswomen and their participation in the economic progress. This has made it imperative to draw up a perspective to extend support to women affairs, business and investments. Such support extended to women not only because they are involved in business, but because of the significance of their effective contribution to the national economy. The responsibility of the development of the national economy to ensure that it is capable of coping with the world changes rests with the people of this country.
The foundation of the Council reflects the insistence on consolidating the role of the Abu Dhabi Businesswomen in the various economic and services sectors in Abu Dhabi Emirate. The Council shall promote the bilateral relations with businesswomen communities in the Gulf Region, the Arab world and the world at large. The Council shall also endeavour to provide appropriate opportunities to train and qualify women and expand their participation in commercial and professional businesses. This, in turn, will directly contribute to the Emiratization of jobs in particular and the various economic activities in general, as an important national requirement.
I wish every success to Abu Dhabi Businesswomen Council and would urge all my sisters, members of the Council and all businesswomen to exert more efforts to strengthen the economy development process in the United Arab Emirates.
