Under the leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, as well as of his honest Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general are witnessing a new, important breakthrough in their march of development and civilization.

As we experience such a chapter of comprehensive development being undergone by Abu Dhabi, we are well aware at the ADBWC that our responsibilities for contributing to the national development and economy have expanded in line with the growing role of the private sector at large in the developmental and economic process in the country.

Undoubtedly, our responsibilities are ever-increasing concomitantly with the limitless support given to our Council by the country's wise leadership and by HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, the forerunner of feminist action in the UAE, whose efforts and back-up have been generously granted to us for the sake of improving the UAE women in all their locations, including the ADBWC.

The ADBWC has over the past few years of its long life made massive achievements, which have been instrumental in the development of national working women, boosting their role in the march of economic development. Thus, the Council has reached a key stage of growth and development with which it has turned out to be an important part in the Abu Dhabi-based business community. Owing to both its visible, discernible contributions being appreciated by everybody and to the businesswomen under its banner, the Council is no longer in need of talking too much about itself.

Thanks to the support provided to them in Abu Dhabi within the framework of a more pervasive climate, women and businesswomen in Abu Dhabi managed last year to achieve significant successes through the enhancement of their positions in public life, entering by a considerable percentage into the Federal National Council, as well as through their presence in the government and in numerous leading positions in the UAE.

Furthermore, the role of women, especially of businesswomen in Abu Dhabi, was bolstered in the UAE economic and investment activity and they proceeded to contribute to developmental and economic projects outside the UAE.

The UAE women and businesswomen in Abu Dhabi established their intensive presence at forums and seminars with the Union of Arab Women Investors. The Abu Dhabi-based businesswomen's attendance of such meetings has become an effective indicator in bringing our experience across to Arab women wherever they are stationed, and in making use of businesswomen in the Gulf States, Arab sisterly countries and in different countries of the world.

I am fully confident that thanks to the support provided by our wise leadership and through continuation on the part of all businesswomen in Abu Dhabi to shoulder their responsibilities with a view to participate in the country's development and economic growth, the ADBWC will over the forthcoming period be dwelling upon new successes in all fields.
